Water is filtered to remove sediments, organic material, bacteria and viruses before it reaches the membranes.
Water is forced through the membrane vessels under pressure — removing more than 99% of the salt and dissolved minerals.
Advanced diffuser technology reintroduces the residual effluent into the ocean in a safe, responsible and environmentally sound manner — rapidly diluting it to protect marine life and habitats.
Water is remineralized — minerals are added back to match the taste and quality of the existing supply.
Fresh, drought-proof water is stored and released into the municipal and industrial water system.
How the Membrane Works
Salt water is forced under pressure through layers of a superfine semipermeable membrane. Fresh water passes through, while salts and other dissolved contaminants are filtered out and left behind.

In partnership with global desalination leader IDE Technologies, US Desalination formed RGV-Desal, LLC to design, develop, finance, and operate a privately funded marine desalination facility — delivering a new, drought-proof water supply to one of the fastest-growing and most water-stressed regions in the country.

Seawater reverse osmosis draws on the ocean — an effectively infinite resource — to solve virtually any water challenge at scale. With no discernible environmental impact and zero aquifer-depletion risk, this proven osmotic technology is deployed widely across the world.
Distributed supply for inland communities.
Brackish reverse osmosis costs roughly 40% less and permits about 60% faster than large-scale seawater RO — making it ideal for smaller communities and inland regions that need reliable, drought-resilient water quickly.
